One of the most effective, efficient, quick and convenient “trenchless technologies” for drain repair is drain re-lining.
This technique has been available for about 20 years or more, which means it has been perfected and optimised so that there are different types of pipe lining that can be applied to cover and correct all sorts of drainage defects and damage, leaving pipes in a better than new condition at a fraction of the cost of drain replacement.
The team at Roman Rod are highly experienced at all the “no-dig” drain repair options available, which offer our clients an excellent non-intrusive lasting solution to their drainage woes without us having to excavate pipes and cause days of disruption.
The relining process can be applied to pipes with diameters as small as 100mm or as big as 1500mm, and we can line the full length of a pipeline just a portion, or a patch, depending on the problem.
Drain Re-lining is indicated for repairing various pipeline issues, such as root intrusions, cracks or loose joint connections. When we are called out to attend to a leaking, smelly or troublesome drain we initially undertake a CCTV camera survey of the pipeline – sometimes accompanied by a sonar scan – to identify the site and source of the problem.
If, as is usually the case, our professional technicians determine that the drain damage could be cured by re-lining the pipe, we then proceed by first cleaning out any debris, silt, tree roots or build up of sludge using high pressure water jets.
To reline the pipe we use a flexible resin-impregnated tube of the appropriate diameter that is pushed through the pipe for the required length. An airbag is pushed through the inside which inflates to mould the liner to the inner surface of the pipe, heated so that the liner melds to the pipe covering any cracks, breaks and joints. Once finished it is basically as though you have a new, strong, durable pipe installed flush inside the old one.
If any connections joining to the pipe are blanked off by the newly inserted lining, the CCTV camera is used to precisely locate these and they are then precisely opened up using a robot cutter.
It takes a couple of hours for the lining to “cure”, after which water flow can be resumed and will be noticeably improved.
All this is achieved without having to do any digging up or chipping out of pipes and provides a lasting structural drain repair approved by insurers and local authorities.
Drain lining is a skilled operation and its success is only assured if the technicians who apply it are well-trained and experienced. Jeremy Burns of Roman Rod and his sons have been relining pipes in and around Bath and north-east Somerset for many years, and are probably the top experts in their field in the area.
